10 reasons to love today

Valentine’s day is upon us.

I’m one of those people that gets really excited over Valentine’s day. I’m a hopeless romantic. The combination of cheesy hearts, cards, stuffed animals and bad chocolate just make for a perfect holiday in my mind.

It’s not all about the merchandise though, there are a lot of reasons everyone should celebrate Valentine’s Day. Single people look at this as a day to feel sorry for themselves, and that’s just not necessary. Anyone can celebrate.

Nobody cares if you’re sad, so you might as well be happy. Look at it as a day to give cheesy gifts to your friends and pig out on Russell Stover’s. It’s not all about relationships. Back in the day when I was single, you can bet I loved this day just as much as I do now. Here are 10 reasons why you should do the same.

•Because you need to love yourself before someone else can love you.
•Because chocolate.
•Because friends need valentines too. Team up with another single friend and treat yourselves.
•Because there is no pressure to get anyone a gift if you don’t want to.
•Because you deserve to be happy every day, including a day that’s dedicated to lovers.
•Because you’re a strong, independent woman
who don’t need no man.
•Because you get to save money.
•Because you can laugh at all the people hopelessly in love (seriously, they’re hilarious).
•Because who likes dressing up anyway?
•Because there are no expectations and therefore no disappointments.
Today is the perfect opportunity to tell your crush that you think they are smokin’ hot. Today is the perfect opportunity to hang out with your friends, eat frosting out of the container, and watch Nicholas Sparks movies. Today is the perfect opportunity to laugh at yourself and more importantly, at others.
So, bask in the irony of this Hallmark holiday and just go with the flow. Look at it as the New Year of your love life. Today is not a day to lament over how forever alone you are. It is a fun day, darn it.
